Friend & Family Support
As a family member or friend of a Sjögren’s patient, you are concerned for your loved one and we know you want to learn more about Sjögren’s. Here are some tips on how you can support your loved one with Sjögren’s:
Learn more about Sjögren’s: Visit our website and find out more information about the disease, its symptoms and its treatment. The more knowledge you have, they more you will be able to support your friend/family member.
Attend a Support Group Meeting: Family members are always welcome at our Support Group Meetings. You will meet other patients with Sjögren’s while also providing much needed support for the person you know with the disease.
Attend our National Patient Conference: Each Spring the SjSC holds a National Patient Conference featuring up-to-date, expert presentations on Sjögren’s Syndrome. With an entire day packed full of information, you can support your loved one by taking in all of the information (which can sometimes be overwhelming) along with them.
Join your friend or loved one on a visit to his or her physician’s appointment: This will give you a better understanding of how physicians treat this disease and will also help you understand the various symptoms and complications Sjögren’s patients experience.
Become involved with the Sjögren’s Society of Canada: We hold many fundraising events throughout the year and our members really benefit from the support of their loved ones. Showing support in this way also helps raise SjSC awareness.
Consider becoming a member of the Sjögren’s Society of Canada: By becoming a member, you will not only receive our quarterly newsletter, but you will also receive materials from the SjSC that will help expand your knowledge as well as give you resources to help your loved one.
